Abby Ridd is an interdisciplinary artist, writer, and filmmaker specializing in stop-motion animation and experimental storytelling.
Raised in Gibsons, BC on the Sunshine Coast, her work is shaped by meaningful engagement with place, materiality, and memory. Ridd earned her BFA in film production from Simon Fraser University’s School for the Contemporary Arts, where she explored animation, screenwriting, and analog filmmaking practices. In 2026, she became a member of the inaugural VIFF Animation Cohort, through the Institute for the Moving Image.
Across her career, Ridd has developed a style that relies on slow, intricate, and handmade storytelling. Her debut stop-motion comedy, The Only Person in the World (2023), screened at the Whistler Film Festival, Chilliwack Independent Film Festival, and Ignite Youth Arts Festival. Subsequent works, including Giggle, Gurgle, Gobble (2024) and Gooseland (2025), also screened at Ignite.
Her latest animated short film, To Burn Our Sacred House (2026), is set to premiere at the TIFF MDFF Student Select Showcase in July 2026.
